Slovakia Construction Output Growth at 5-Month Low

Slovakia’s construction output rose by 2.3% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating from a five-month low of a 1.0% increase in the previous month. While it remained the second-slowest growth rate recorded this year, construction output reached almost EUR 805 million, exceeding EUR 800 million for the first time this year, largely driven by stronger domestic activity (4.7% vs 1.1% in June), with increased output for new construction (4.9% vs 2.8%) and repair and maintenance work (5.0% vs -1.6%). By type of construction, building activity increased 6.5% (vs 2.7%), while civil engineering output rose 1.1% (-1.9%). Meanwhile, construction output abroad fell 13.5% (vs -0.1%), marking the third-largest decline this year and significantly limiting the overall growth in the sector. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output increased 1.9% in July. In the first seven months of 2026, construction activity increased 8.2% compared with the same period a year earlier.

This marked the weakest growth since a contraction in January, as domestic construction activity moderated (1.1% vs 7.8% in May), reflecting more subdued growth in new construction, reconstruction and modernization (2.8% vs 7.5%), as well as in buildings (2.7% vs 11.7%). At the same time, output declined in repair and maintenance work (-6.6% vs 11.0%), while it fell further in civil engineering output (-1.9% vs -1.1%). Meanwhile, construction output abroad was broadly unchanged at -0.1%, matching the previous month. June also recorded the weakest year-on-year growth among June readings in the past 14 years. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output fell 4.6% in June. In the first half of 2026, construction production increased 9.2% compared with the same period a year earlier.

Slovakia’s construction output rose by 6.8% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a 13.2% increase in the previous month. This marked the slowest growth since January, as domestic construction activity moderated (7.8% vs 17.7% in April), reflecting slower growth in new construction, reconstruction and modernization (7.5% vs 20.4%), as well as repair and maintenance work (11.0% vs 13.2%). Building construction also slowed (11.7% vs 18.0%), while civil engineering output declined (-1.1% vs 17.1%). Meanwhile, construction output abroad was broadly unchanged from a year earlier, compared with a 14.9% decline in April. Despite the overall slowdown, May still recorded the fifth-fastest growth among the past 14 years. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output fell 2.9% in May. In the first five months of 2026, construction production increased 11% compared with the same period a year earlier.
