Romania Producer Inflation Accelerates in August

Romania’s producer inflation climbed 11.82% year-on-year in August 2026, following an upwardly revised 8.84% rise in the previous month.

Prices accelerated in the manufacturing sector (10.52% vs 9.65% in July), driven by faster inflation in food, beverages, tobacco products, textiles, coke and refined petroleum products, other non-metallic mineral products, fabricated metal products, electrical equipment, and other transport equipment.

Additionally, costs increased at a faster pace in mining and quarrying (12.67% vs 10.24%) and electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (14.95% vs 6.22%), while water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities remained unchanged at 14.73%.

On a monthly basis, producer prices climbed 2.11% in August 2026 from 0.69% in the previous month.

Romania Producer Inflation Eases to 4-Month Low
Romania’s producer inflation rose by 8.75% year-on-year in July 2026, easing from an upwardly revised and over three-year high of 13.13% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since March, as price growth slowed sharply for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (6.22% vs 23.32% in June). In contrast, costs continued to increase for mining and quarrying (10.24% vs 8.25%) and manufacturing (9.65% vs 9.09%), mostly in food products (3.35%), leather and related products (6.11%), paper and paper products (5.35%), coke and refined petroleum products (44.86%), chemicals and chemical products (16.56%), basic metals (12.30%), computer, electronic and optical products (11.58%), and electrical equipment (9.13%). Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities also edged up (14.73% vs 14.20%). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.69% in July, inching down from 0.84% in the preceding period.

Romania’s producer inflation climbed 12.69% year-on-year in June 2026, following a downwardly revised 11.86% rise in the previous month and marking the highest reading since March 2023. Prices accelerated in the manufacturing sector (9.09% vs 8.89% in May), driven by faster inflation in beverages, tobacco, textiles, wearing apparel, wood and wood products, paper and paper products, chemicals and chemical products, rubber and plastic products, fabricated metal products, electrical equipment, and machinery and equipment not elsewhere classified. Additionally, costs increased at a faster pace in mining and quarrying (8.25% vs 7.79%), electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (23.32% vs 21.33%), and water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities (14.2% vs 13.74%). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.84% in June 2026, easing from 1.41% in the previous month.
