Retail sales in Poland surged 7.6% year-on-year in April 2025, marking the strongest growth since May 2022 and reversing a 0.3% decline in March.
The sharp rebound was primarily driven by a 14.9% increase in motor vehicle sales (compared to 18.4% in March) and a strong recovery in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, which rose 9.7% after a 9.4% decline the previous month.
Additional support came from solid growth in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopaedic equipment (7.5% vs. 5.0%), textiles, clothing, and footwear (8.4% vs. 6.7%), furniture, electronics, and household appliances (13.2% vs. 12.9%), newspapers, books, and other specialized store sales (3.9% vs. 1.0%), and solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels (1.6% vs. -0.1%).
On a monthly basis, retail trade jumped 6.2% in April, the highest monthly increase since May 2020, rebounding from a 0.6% decline in March.
