Peru Inflation Rate Hits 3-Year High of 4.55%

The annual inflation rate in Peru's capital, Lima, rose further to 4.55% in September 2026, marking its fastest pace in three years, up from August's 4.44%.This marks the seventh consecutive month above the central bank's 1%-3% target range, as higher global fuel prices and adverse weather linked to the El Niño phenomenon continued to impact transport, agriculture and fishing.

By categories, the highest rates were recorded for transportation (15.10% vs 14.79% in August); restaurants & hotels (4.35% vs 4.27%); food & non-alcholic beverages (3.87% vs 3.87%) and education (3.50% vs 3.50%).

Meanwhile, prices declined for communications (-4.30% vs -4.35%).

On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.12% in September, after a 0.07% increase in the month before.

Peru Annual Inflation Accelerates Further
The annual inflation rate in Peru's capital, Lima, accelerated to 4.44% in August 2026, marking the fastest pace in nearly three years, up from 4.07% in July. Price pressures have strengthened since March amid a domestic gas crisis, higher global fuel prices, and adverse weather affecting crop yields and fishing. Inflation accelerated for food, rising to 3.9% from 3.5%, and restaurants and hotels (4.3% vs 4.2%), while transport costs surged further by 14.8% after a 14.3% rise. Price growth in housing and utilities also added upward pressure, rising sharply to 3.1% from 1.3%. From the previous month, consumer prices rose 0.07%, easing from a 0.29% rise in the prior month.

Peru Annual Inflation at 2023-Highs
The annual inflation rate in Peru's capital, Lima, edged up to 4.07% in July 2026 from 4.01% in the previous month, reaching its highest level since October 2023. The increase was mainly driven by faster price growth for food (3.5% vs 3.3%), education (3.6% vs 3.4%), furnishings and household equipment (3.2% vs 3.0%), housing and utilities (1.3% vs 1.2%), recreation and culture (2.2% vs 2.0%), clothing and footwear (1.5% vs 1.4%), and health (1.3% vs 1.2%). Meanwhile, deflation for communication and information eased (-2.6% vs -4.6%), while inflation for restaurants and hotels remained unchanged at 4.2%. In contrast, transport inflation moderated slightly (14.3% vs 14.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.29%, accelerating from a 0.23% increase in June.
