Peru GDP Annual Growth Rate at 2.40 percent  
Peru's economy advanced 2.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017 compared to a 2.1 percent rise in the previous period and slightly below market expectations of a 2.45 percent expansion. Growth was recorded in fisheries (128.7 percent), agriculture (1.1 percent), mining (1.9 percent), manufacturing (3.5 percent), trade (0.9 percent), transportation (2.4 percent), restaurants and hotels (1.3 percent), telecommunications (6.5 percent), financial services and insurance (0.4 percent), utilities (1.6 percent) and services to companies (0.1 percent). On the other hand, construction sector contracted 2.9 percent. On the expenditure side, the expansion was mainly driven by household expenditure which grew 2 percent and a 11.7 percent surge in exports.

On the other hand, declines were recorded for the third consecutive month for both fisheries (-29.96 percent) and manufacturing (-2.55 percent). Year-to-date, economic activity grew 2.38 percent compared to the same period in 2016.

Peru Interest Rate at 3.25 percent  
The Central Reserve Bank of Peru cut the benchmark interest by 25bps to 3.25 percent on its November 9th of 2017 meeting after leaving it unchanged in October. The decision surprised markets that had no-move expectations and leaves the key rate at its lowest since August of 2015. Policymakers underscored that inflation declined markedly in October, while expectations remained within target and are expected to continue to decline in the months ahead. They also mentioned that economic activity remains subdued in a low-inflation context. Consumer prices in Peru rose 2.04 percent year-on-year in October of 2017, compared to a 2.94 percent increase in September. It was the lowest inflation rate since July 2010.

Exports surged 30.8 percent year-on-year to USD 4252 million, boosted by sales of traditional goods (40.9 percent), namely copper and gold. In contrast, consumption goods imports declined 1.1 percent.
