The Committee noted that the annual inflation rate fell below the target range to 1.85 percent in September from 2.04 percent in August, and it is expected to be around 2 percent on the projected horizon, with a downward bias due to a possibility of a slower-than-expected growth in domestic demand. Policymakers underscored that primary activity has gained steam after a complicated first half of the year, whereas non-primary activity has also picked up, but at a softer rate than expected.

On the other hand, cost rose further for housing & utilities (2.14 percent from 2.05 percent); recreation & culture (4.4 percent from 4.36); and health (1.65 percent from 1.59 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.01 percent, easing from a 0.06 percent gain in the prior month.

Peru's economy grew 1.2 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, following an upwardly revised 2.4 percent advance in the previous three-month period. That was the weakest rate of expansion since the third quarter of 2009 as household consumption rose at a softer pace (2.5 percent vs 3.2 percent) and net external demand contributed negatively to the GDP growth, with exports slumping 2.9 percent (vs 0.8 percent in Q1) and imports increasing 0.6 percent (vs 0.5 percent in Q1). Meanwhile, fixed capital investment jumped 5.8 percent (vs 1.5 percent in Q1) and government spending advanced 3.8 percent (vs 1.9 percent in Q1).

Also, agriculture & livestock shrank 1.09 percent, after a 0.01 percent decline in the prior month.
