Norway Retail Sales Rebound in August

Retail sales in Norway rose 0.6% month-on-month in August 2026, rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.6% decline in the previous month. Sales recovered in non-specialized stores (0.5% vs -0.2% in July), food and beverages (0.7% vs -1.2%), automotive fuel (5.3% vs -4.1%), and other household equipment (0.5% vs -0.8%). In addition, sales accelerated for cultural and recreation goods (1.9% vs 0.2%). On the other hand, sales fell at a faster pace for ICT equipment (-3.7% vs -2.3%), while trade not in stores, stalls, etc. eased (1% vs 1.7%). On a yearly basis, retail sales fell 1%, easing from a 2% drop in the previous month.

Retail sales in Norway fell 0.7% month over month in July 2026, reversing a revised 1.6% increase in the previous month. Sales growth slowed for goods not sold in stores, stalls, and markets (1.4% vs 2.2% in June), and cultural and recreation goods (0.2% vs 3.7%). At the same time, sales declined for non-specialised stores (-0.3% vs 1.4%), food, beverages, and tobacco (-1.0% vs 1.8%), and other household equipment (-0.9% vs 1.7%), while the decline deepened for ICT equipment (-2.1% vs -0.1%) and eased for automotive fuel (-2.8% vs 3.6%). Meanwhile, sales rebounded for other goods (1.8% vs -1.0%) and continued to rise for mail order or internet sales (1.9% vs 1.7%). On an annual basis, retail sales declined 2.0% in July, following a 0.3% fall in the previous month.

Retail sales in Norway grew 1.8% month over month in June 2026, rebounding from an upwardly revised 2.4% drop in May, which was the steepest decline since June 2024. It was the fastest increase in retail sales since May 2024, driven by a rebound in sales at non-specialized stores (1.6% vs -2.1% in May), food, beverages, and tobacco stores (1.8% vs -1.6%), ICT equipment stores (0.1% vs -5.3%), other household equipment stores (1.7% vs -1.3%), cultural and recreational goods stores (3.8% vs -6.9%), while sales through non-store retailing rose at a much faster pace (1.9% vs 0.1%). Additionally, sales fell at a slower pace for automotive fuel (-3.0% vs -3.4%) and other goods (-0.7% vs -2.6%). On an annual basis, retail sales fell by 0.3%, after a downwardly revised 2.3% drop in May.
