Norway Retail Sales Recover in January

Retail sales in Norway rose by 1.1% month-on-month in January 2026, rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.6% fall in the previous month.

Sales across nearly all components recovered, including non-specialized stores (0.2% vs -0.5% in December), food and beverages (1.4% vs -1.3%), and automotive fuel (4.5% vs -4.1%).

Activity also increased for ICT equipment (17.9% vs -5.7%), other household equipment (2.6% vs -2.3%), and cultural/recreational goods (2.6% vs -1.6%).

Meanwhile, growth for sales not in stores/stalls slowed to 0.2% from 1.6% in December.

On a yearly basis, retail activity grew by 4.1% in January, accelerating from a 3.2% gain in the preceding period.

Retail sales in Norway fell by 0.7% month-on-month in December 2025, reversing a downwardly revised ten-month high gain of 1.2% in the previous month. Sales declined for non-specialized stores (-0.5% vs 0.4% in November), food and beverages (-1.4% vs 0.3%), ICT equipment (-3.7% vs 1.7%), other household equipment (-3.2% vs 5.3%), and cultural/recreation goods (-2% vs 0.2%). Moreover, trade continued to fall for automotive fuel (-3.2% vs -0.3%). On the other hand, sales for other goods rose 0.4% after stalling in November. On a yearly basis, retail activity rose 3.2% in December 2025, slowing from a downwardly revised 5.1% increase and marking its weakest growth since May.

Norway Retail Sales Growth Hits 18-Month High
Retail sales in Norway increased by 1.3% month-on-month in November 2025, accelerating from a 0.1% rise in the previous month. It marked the second consecutive month of growth and the fastest pace since May 2024, supported by faster increases in sales of ICT equipment (2.3% vs 0.9%), alongside rebounds in other household equipment (5.3% vs -2.1%) and food, beverages and etc (0.2% vs -0.6%), while trade not in stores/stalls etc. rose 2.7% after being flat in October. Meanwhile, sales growth eased for non-specialised stores (0.5% vs 0.9%), cultural and recreational goods (0.2% vs 2.1%), and other goods (0.2% vs 0.9%), while automotive fuel was unchanged after edging up in October. On a yearly basis, retail activity grew 5.2% in November, following a 3.3% rise in the preceding period.
