Norway Manufacturing Output Falls 1% in June

Norway’s manufacturing production dropped 1% month-over-month in June 2026, reversing an upwardly revised 0.8% rise in the previous month. Output declined across several key categories, including food, beverages and tobacco (-0.7% vs 1.1% in May), fabricated metal products (-3.3% vs 5.2%), repair and installation of machinery (-7.0% vs 6.5%), computer and electrical equipment (-1.7% vs -0.5%), machinery and equipment (-3.4% vs 1.0%), basic metals (-1.5% vs 0.5%), and rubber, plastic and mineral products (-1.2% vs 0.5%). In contrast, production continued to rise in refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceuticals (1% vs 0.1%) and rebounded in ships, boats and oil platforms (2.5% vs -1.7%). On an annual basis, manufacturing output increased 0.7%, slowing from a downwardly revised 2.1% growth in May.

Norway’s manufacturing production rose 0.7% month-over-month in May 2026, above market expectations of a 0.4% increase and rebounding from a 0.9% decline in the previous month. Growth accelerated in food, beverages, and tobacco (1.1% vs 0.3% in April), wood and wood products (2.3% vs 0.8%), and basic chemicals (5.6% vs 3.7%). Additionally, output recovered in textiles, wearing apparel, and leather (3.2% vs -1.9%), fabricated metal products (4.8% vs -2.3%), machinery and equipment (1.2% vs -1.6%), and the repair and installation of machinery (5.5% vs -2.5%). In contrast, production growth slowed for refined petroleum, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals (0.0% vs 4.5%) and basic metals (0.5% vs 5.5%), while output continued to fall for ships, boats, and oil platforms (-1.7% vs -0.7%) and furniture and manufacturing n.e.c. (-2.2% vs -1.8%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing output increased 2.2%, after a 0.6% drop in April.

Growth slowed in food, beverages, and tobacco (0.3% vs 1.0% in March), while declines were observed in fabricated metal products (-2.3% vs 1.6%), repair and installation of machinery (-2.5% vs 2.8%), computer and electrical equipment (-0.7% vs 2.0%), machinery and equipment (-1.6% vs 2.7%), ships, boats, and oil platforms (-0.7% vs 4.6%), and rubber, plastic, and mineral products (-0.2% vs 2.5%). In contrast, production rebounded strongly for refined petroleum, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals (4.5% vs -1.9%) and basic metals (5.5% vs -0.1%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing output fell by 0.6%, after increasing 3.2% in March.
