Norway Loan Debt Up 4.3% in July

Norway’s general public domestic loan debt rose by 4.3% year-on-year to NOK 8.01 trillion at the end of July 2026, easing slightly from a 4.4% increase in the previous month.

Lending growth to non-financial corporations eased to 4.0% from 4.1% in June, reaching NOK 2.41 trillion, while that to municipal government moderated to 3.4% from 3.7%, totaling NOK 836.6 billion.

Meanwhile, household loan debt rose by 4.6% to NOK 4.77 trillion, following a 4.7% increase in June.

On a seasonally adjusted annualized one-month basis, total loan debt for the general public grew by 4.3%, easing from a 4.4% rise in the prior period.

Lending growth to non-financial corporations eased to 4.1% from 4.3% in May, reaching NOK 2.42 billion, while that to municipal government also slowed to 3.7% from 4.6%, totaling NOK 0.8 trillion. Meanwhile, household loan debt rose by 4.7% to NOK 4.76 billion, following a 4.6% increase in May. On a seasonally adjusted annualized one-month basis, total loan debt for the general public grew by 3.7%, slowing from a 4.9% rise in the prior month.

Norway’s general public domestic loan debt rose by 4.5% year-on-year to NOK 7.96 billion at the end of May 2026, following a 4.4% increase a month earlier. Lending to non-financial corporations increased further, rising to 4.3% from 3.8% in April, while household debt growth remained unchanged at 4.7%. Meanwhile, loan debt growth for municipal government eased slightly to 4.6% from 4.7%. On a seasonally adjusted annualised one-month basis, total loan debt for the general public grew by 4.6% in May, matching the pace recorded in April.
