Montenegro Tourist Arrivals Rise 0.3% in May

The number of tourist arrivals in Montenegro rose by 0.3% year-on-year to 169,877 in May 2026, rebounding from an 8.4% decline in the previous month.

Foreign visitors remained the primary source of arrivals, accounting for 87.4% of the total, or 148,388 arrivals, while domestic arrivals represented 12.6%, or 21,489.

Among foreign tourists, Europe continued to be the largest source region, contributing 78.8% of arrivals, led by Serbia, Germany, and France.

Outside Europe, the highest numbers of arrivals came from Israel, the United States, and China (including Hong Kong).

By type of accommodation, seaside resorts remained the most popular destination, accounting for 79.5% of arrivals, followed by the capital region (12.4%) and mountain resorts (4.8%).

Meanwhile, overnight stays in collective accommodation totaled 506,256, with foreign visitors accounting for 86.3% of stays and domestic tourists making up the remaining 13.7%.

Montenegro Tourist Arrivals Down 8.4% in April
The number of tourist arrivals in Montenegro fell by 8.4% year-on-year to 107,939 in April 2026, reversing a rise of 2.4% in March, as arrivals continue to increase since the beggining of the year. Foreign arrivals remain the leading source of arrivals, at 89.3%, while domestic arrivals only account for 10.7%. Europe continued to be the largest source region (83.4%), namely from Germany (11.8%), Serbia (10.7%), France (8.6%) and the UK (8%). Outside of Europe,the highest numbers of arrivals came from China (including Hong Kong) (4.8%) and the US (3.7%). By type of accomodation, seaside resorts remained the most popular destination (79.8%), followed by the capital city with 13.3%. Meanwhile, overnight stays in collective accommodation totaled 278 thousand,with foreign visitors accounting for 86.3% of stays and domestic tourists making up the remaining 13.7%.

Montenegro Tourist Arrivals Up 3.4% in February
The number of tourist arrivals in Montenegro rose by 3.4% year-on-year to 41,317 in February 2026, rebounding from a 7.2% drop in the previous month. This marked the highest number of arrivals since November last year, with the largest tourists coming from Europe (77.6% of total arrivals), particularly in Serbia (22.1%), Albania (15.4%), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (7.2%). Outside Europe, key markets included China (including Hong Kong) (13.3%), Israel (2.8%), and USA (1.8%). Foreign tourists accounted for the majority of overnight stays in collective accommodation, representing 71.7% of all nights, while domestic tourists made up 28.3%. By type of resort, most overnight stays were recorded in seaside resorts (57.6%), followed by mountain resorts (16.6%), the capital (16.3%), and other resorts (9.4%).
