Montenegro Producer Prices Change at 1.20 percent  
Producer prices in Montenegro rose 1.2 percent year-on-year in March 2019, slowing from a 1.5 percent gain in the previous month. It was the lowest producer inflation rate in nine months, as cost eased for mining & quarrying (1.2 percent compared to 2.3 percent in February); manufacturing (2 percent compared to 2.2 percent); and electricity, gas & water supply (a flat reading compared to 4.4 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices declined 0.2 percent, after increasing 0.1 percent in the prior month.

The annual inflation rate in Montenegro increased to 0.8 percent in March 2019 from 0.4 percent in the previous month. Prices rose further for food & alcoholic beverages (3.5 percent from 2.7 percent in February); and miscellaneous goods & services (0.9 percent from 0.8 percent). Additionally, prices rebounded for transport (0.9 percent from -1.2 percent) and restaurants & hotels (0.4 percent from -0.3 percent). Also, cost of health fell less (-0.3 percent from -0.5 percent). Meanwhile, prices declined at a faster pace for clothing & footwear (-3.7 percent from -2.3 percent); communication (-1.1 percent from -0.9 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-6.7 percent from -6.6 percent); and furniture & household equipment (-0.8 percent from -0.2 percent). In addition, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (2.2 percent, the same as in February). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.6 percent, after a 0.4 percent gain in February.

The trade gap in Montenegro rose to EUR 147.7 million in February of 2019 from EUR 131.6 million in the same month of the previous year, as exports went up 6.9 percent to EUR 32 million while imports advanced at a faster 11.3 percent to EUR 179.7 million. Considering the January to February period, the trade gap widened to EUR 248.2 million from EUR 226.2 million in the same period of 2017. Exports advanced 7.8 percent to EUR 60.2 million, boosted by higher purchases of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (38 percent). Among major trading partners, shipments advanced to Serbia (14.9 percent), Hungary (12.2 percent) and to Bosnia (49.8 percent). Imports went up at a faster 9.4 percent to EUR 308.5 million, due to higher purchases of machinery and transport equipment (12.8 percent). Purchases went up mainly from Serbia (7.5 percent), Germany (20.1 percent) and Italy (4.7 percent)
