Moldova Inflation Rate Eases in June

The annual inflation rate in Moldova rose to 6.5% in June 2026, easing from a 6.8% increase in each of the previous two months.

Price growth moderated in non-food products (6.5% vs 7.2% in May), as fuel and motor fuel inflation eased, although prices continued to rise strongly.

At the same time, inflation in services edged down (7.4% vs 7.5%), reflecting slower increases in passenger transport, regulated electricity tariffs, rent, education, and public catering services.

Meanwhile, inflation for food products remained unchanged at 5.7%, as lower prices for sugar partly offset continued increases in eggs, vegetables, bread, dairy products, fruit, meat products, and vegetable oil.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1% in June, reversing a 0.4% increase in the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Moldova stood at 6.8% in May 2026, unchanged from the previous month, and remained the highest level since December 2025. Prices of non-food products accelerated (7.2% vs 7.1% in April), driven by strong increases in fuels and motor fuels, footwear, carpets and other floor coverings, and medicines. At the same time, price growth in services edged up (7.5% vs 6.9%), supported by increases in passenger transport specifically in urban and air, regulated tariffs for electricity supply, rent, education and public catering services. Meanwhile, inflation for food products eased to 5.7% from 6.3% in the previous month, due to notable decreases in vegetables, fresh fruits, eggs, although costs for fish and canned fish, dairy products, and alcoholic beverages continued to rise. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4% in May, slowing from a 1.8% rise in April.

The annual inflation rate in Moldova rose to 6.8% in April 2026 from 5.8% in the previous month, marking the highest level since December 2025. Prices of non-food products accelerated (7.1% vs 4.8% in March), driven by strong increases in fuels and motor fuels, footwear, construction materials, and medicines. At the same time, price growth in services edged up (6.9% vs 6.6%), supported by increases in passenger transport, regulated tariffs for electricity supply, drinking water supply and sewage services, and public catering. Meanwhile, inflation for food products remained unchanged at 6.3%, despite notable increases in eggs, vegetables, fruits, milk and dairy products, meat, meat preparations and canned goods, and vegetable oil. On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 1.8% in April, the highest reading in fifteen months, following a 1.3% increase in the prior month.
