Moldova Producer Prices Change at 4.00 percent  
Moldova´s annual producer inflation edged up to 4.0 percent in August 2017 from 3.8 percent in July. Prices increased mainly for manufacturing (3.2 percent vs 3.1 percent), especially for mining and quarrying (4.4 percent vs 3.6 percent); food industry (4.4 percent vs 3.8 percent) and metallurgical industry (2.0 percent vs 0.3 percent). Meanwhile, producer inflation remained unchanged for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (12 percent) and electricity production, transport and distribution (5.5 percent). On the other hand, prices went down for textiles (3.9 percent vs 5.1 percent) and chemicals (0.4 percent vs 1.7 percent.

Also, unemployment affected more urban areas (5 percent vs 6.8 percent) compared to rural areas (2.3 percent vs 1.9 percent).

Moldova Interest Rate at 7.50 percent  
The National Bank of Moldova cut its benchmark interest rate by 50 bps to 7.5 percent on August 28th. The decision aims to boost economic activity and bring back inflation to its target of 5 percent ± 1.5 percentage points in the medium term. In July, the annual inflation rate was 7.3 percent, the same as in June but remains above the upper limit of the range. The central bank now expects inflation to be 6.5% in 2017 and 4.4% in 2018.
