Moldova Industrial Output Growth Slows in May

Industrial production in Moldova rose 8.2% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 10.5% increase in the previous month.

This marked the lowest reading in three months as weaker growth in the manufacturing industry (7.6% vs 8.4% in April), particularly in the production of pharmaceutical products (11.9% vs 15.3%), electrical equipment (6.7% vs 22.5%), metal construction and products (32.5% vs 66.4%), and other industrial activities (10.6% vs 18.3%), while dairy products (-5.6% vs 5.9%) and printing and reproduction of recorded media (-9.4% vs 22.8%) recorded declines.

Additionally, activity decreased significantly for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (11.0% vs 36.1%).

Meanwhile, production grew for mining and quarrying (22.4% vs 13.4%).

On a monthly basis, industrial output increased by 1.9% in May, rebounding from a 11.7% decline in April.

In the January–May period, industrial production rose 7.2% compared to the corresponding period a year ago.

Industrial production in Moldova jumped 10.6% year-on-year in June 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 8.3% rise in the previous month. This marked the strongest gain since March, driven by higher output in the manufacturing industry (10.2% vs 7.7% in May), with notable increases in food products (18.4% vs 15.5%), textiles (40.1% vs 24.9%), leather and related products (41.7% vs 30.8%), wood and wood products (24.6% vs 11.0%), basic metals (30.6% vs -41.9%), computer, electronic, and optical products (36.2% vs -16.3%), electrical equipment (7.9% vs 6.7%), machinery and equipment (45.3% vs 26.1%), and furniture (59.5% vs -4.3%). Additionally, activity in the electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply sector increased at a faster pace (19.4% vs 11.0%). Meanwhile, mining production slowed (10.3% vs 22.4%). On a monthly basis, industrial output fell 0.9%, reversing a 1.9% rise in May. In the first half of the year, industrial production grew 7.9%.

Industrial production in Moldova advanced 10.6% year-on-year in April 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 12.2% increase in the previous month. The slowdown is driven by a weaker growth in the mining industry (8.5% vs 12.6% in March) and manufacturing industry (13.4% vs 16.4%), particularly in the production of food products, textiles, paper and paper products, pharmaceutical products, and furniture. However, stronger growth in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (36.0% vs 9.5% in March) helped cushion the slowdown. On a monthly basis, industrial output eased 11.5%, following a 19.1% rise in March. In the January-April period, industrial production increased 7.0% compared to the preceding period.
