Malaysia Retail Sales Growth Accelerates to 8-Month High

Retail sales in Malaysia rose by 7% year-on-year in September 2025, accelerating from a 5% gain in the previous month and marking the largest increase since January.
Key contributors to this growth were sales in non-specialised stores (9.9% vs 5.6% in August), trade not in stores, stalls or markets (9.2% vs 5.0%), and sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (7.0% vs 5.3%.
Increases were also recorded in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco in specialised stores (6.2% vs 5.5%), information and communication equipment in specialised stores (4.2% vs 3.1%), and cultural and recreational goods in specialised stores (4.6% vs 3.1%).
On a monthly basis, retail activity grew by 2.4% in September, following a 0.5% increase in August.
