Malaysia Food Prices Rise the Least in 8 Months

Food prices in Malaysia increased by 2.1% year-on-year in May 2025, slowing from a 2.3% rise in the previous month and marking the lowest level since last September.

Prices moderated for food at home (flat reading vs 0.5% in April), oils and fats (1.7% vs 1.8%), and sugar, confectionery, and desserts (1.1% vs 1.2%).

Meanwhile, prices declined further for cereals and cereal products (-0.3% vs -0.2%), fruits and nuts (-0.4% vs -0.7%), meat (-0.3% vs -0.1%), milk, dairy products, and eggs (-1.9% vs -1.3%), and vegetables (-5.5% vs -1.8%).

In contrast, cost edged higher for fish and seafood (1.9% vs 1.8%) and food away from home (4.4% vs 4.3%).
