Lithuania Inflation Rate Accelerates Further in September

Lithuania’s annual inflation rate rose to 6.7% year-on-year in September 2026 from 6.1% in August, marking the highest reading since July 2023.

The acceleration was mainly driven by faster price growth for transport (20.2% vs 15.0% in August) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (15.9% vs 15.8%).

Costs also increased for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (7.3% vs 7.1%), health (5.7% vs 4.9%), and insurance and financial services (7.3% vs 5.9%).

Meanwhile, inflation eased for furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (1.7% vs 2.8%), recreation, sport and culture (5.1% vs 6.2%), education (3.8% vs 5.2%), and information and communication (1.8% vs 2.1%).

Deflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages narrowed (-1.6% vs -2.0%), while clothing and footwear prices fell 0.7% after rising 0.8% in August.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.0% in September, rebounding from a 0.1% decrease in the previous month.

The increase was driven by faster price growth for transport (15% vs 12.5% in July) and housing and utilities (15.8% vs 15.1%). Costs also increased for recreation, sport, and culture (6.2% vs 5.2%), personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services (6.9% vs 5.7%), furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (2.8% vs 2.4%), restaurants and hotels (5.9% vs 5.5%), and information and communication (2.1% vs 1.6%). Meanwhile, inflation eased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.1% vs 7.6%), clothing and footwear (0.8% vs 1.8%), and education (5.2% vs 5.3%), while it held steady for health (4.9%). Deflation also persisted in food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.0% vs -0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1% in August, reversing a 0.2% increase in the previous month.

Lithuania’s annual inflation rate rose to 5.9% in July 2026 from 5.7% in the previous month, marking the highest level since August 2023. Prices increased at a faster pace for housing and utilities (15.1% vs 12.0% in June), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (2.4% vs 1.2%), health (4.9% vs 3.8%), education (5.3% vs 5.0%), and clothing and footwear (1.8% vs 1.7%). Meanwhile, inflation eased in transport (12.5% vs 13.4%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.6% vs 7.8%), information and communication (1.6% vs 3.1%), recreation, sport and culture (5.2% vs 5.8%), restaurants and accommodation (5.5% vs 6.1%), insurance and financial services (5.3% vs 5.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.7% vs 5.8%). Additionally, food and non-alcoholic beverage prices declined (-0.3% vs 0.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.2% in July, easing from 0.5% in the previous month.
