Lithuania Inflation Rate at 1.70 percent  
The annual inflation rate in Lithuania eased to 1.7 percent in January of 2019, the last since December 2016, from 1.9 percent in the previous month. Inflation slowed for: alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.6 pct vs 3.2 pct in December), housing & utilities (5.8 pct vs 5.9 pct), and miscellaneous goods & services (2.5 percent vs 3.0 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent, after a 0.6 percent fall in December.

Lithuania Current Account at 214.00 EUR Million  
Lithuania’s current account surplus decreased to EUR 213.86 million in December of 2018 from EUR 253.18 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. The goods deficit rose to EUR 153.90 million from EUR 49.75 million a year ago, as exports declined 2.8 percent and imports rose 1.7 percent. Also, the secondary income surplus shrank to EUR 106.25 million from EUR 157.32 million. Meanwhile, the services surplus rose to EUR 257.55 million from EUR 223.96 million and the primary income balance shifted to a EUR 3.96 million surplus compared to a EUR 78.35 million shortfall in December of 2017. According to preliminary estimates, in 2018 the current account surplus amounted to EUR 478.6 million, or 1.1% of GDP.

Lithuania Producer Prices Change at 0.20 percent  
Lithuania's annual producer inflation slowed to 0.2 percent in January 2019 from 1.0 percent in the prior month. It is the lowest producer inflation since September 2016, when producer prices fell by 0.6 percent. Prices dropped for manufacturing (-0.3 percent vs 0.6 percent in December) while both mining & quarrying prices (-1.8 percent vs -1.0 percent) and water supply, sewage treatment, waste management prices (-3.9 percent vs -2.1 percent) decreased more than in a month earlier. On the other hand, prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning increased faster (7.3 percent vs 6.2 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 0.2 percent, rebounding from a 2.5 percent fall in December.

Lithuania GDP Growth Rate at 1.60 percent  
Lithuanian economy grew 1.6 percent on quarter in the three months to December 2018, compared to a revised 0.1 percent expansion in the previous period, the preliminary estimate showed. It is the strongest growth since the third quarter 2012. Positive contributions came from manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, transportation and storage, accommodation and food service activities. By contrast, contraction was seen in real estates. For 2018 full year, the economy expanded by 3.9 percent. Year-on-year, the GDP advanced 3.9 percent, faster than an upwardly revised 2.6 percent expansion in the third quarter.

Retail sales in Lithuania rose 3.7 percent year-on-year in December of 2018, easing from an upwardly revised 7.2 percent gain in the previous month. It was the lowest annual growth in retail sales since February, as sales slowed for food products (2.2 percent from 4.3 percent in November); non-food products (5.2 percent from 8.3 percent), and automotive fuel (3.4 percent from 10.4 percent). Within non-food products, sales went up at a softer pace for audio, video, hardware, furniture & lighting (6.7 percent from 9.6 percent); via mail order houses or via internet (14.8 percent from 18.2 percent), and textiles clothing & footwear (9.2 percent from 11.8 percent) while sales of information & communication equipment tumbled (-12.3 percent from 0.3 percent). On the other hand, sales increased faster for dispensing chemist, medical & orthopedic goods (7.9 percent from 4.8 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade jumped 15.6 percent, after a downwardly revised 4 percent fall in November.
