Lithuania Industrial Production at 13.10 percent  
ndustrial production in Lithuania jumped 13.1 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, following an upwardly revised 5.3 percent gain in July. It is the strongest expansion in industrial activity since May of 2013, as production rose sharply for manufacturing (13 percent vs 5.2 percent in July) and mining and quarrying (51.6 percent vs 29.8 percent). Also, output continued to grow for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (11 percent vs 4 percent). Meantime, production stalled for water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities, compared to a 2.7 percent tumble in July. On a monthly basis, industrial production increased 3.2 percent, recovering from a 0.3 percent drop in the previous month. Considering the January to August period, industrial production surged 7 percent.

It is the highest producer inflation since April amid rising prices for manufacturing (4.7 percent compared to 4 percent in July) while cost for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning declined less (-3.6 percent compared to -7.2 percent). On the other hand, prices went up at a slower pace for water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (11.3 percent compared to 11.9 percent) and fell more for mining and quarrying (-0.5 percent compared to -0.3 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.6 percent.

In the first seven months of the year, the trade gap widened to EUR 1.59 billion from EUR 1.40 billion in the same period of 2016.

Lithuania's consumer prices increased 4.4 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, accelerating from a 3.9 percent rise in the previous month. It is the highest inflation rate since November of 2011. Prices continued to advance for: food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.6 percent vs 2.9 percent in July); transport (5.5 percent vs 3.8 percent); housing & utilities (3.7 percent vs 3.2 percent) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (12.1 percent vs 11.7 percent). Additional upward pressure came from: miscellaneous goods & services (5.1 percent vs 5 percent); hotels, cafes & restaurants (7.5 percent vs 7.4 percent) and communication (1 percent vs 0.1 percent). Meanwhile, cost slowed for clothing and footwear (1.2 percent vs 1.5 percent); recreation and culture (4.5 percent 4.9 percent) and furnishings (1.1 percent vs 1.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat compared to a 0.3 percent drop in July.
