Lithuania Producer Prices Change at 9.10 percent  
Lithuania's producer price inflation picked up to 9.1 percent year-on-year in October 2018 from 8.9 percent in the previous month, as manufacturing prices rose at a faster pace (9.3 percent vs 9 percent), in particular manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (32.2 percent vs 31.8 percent). Meanwhile, inflation slowed for both electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (7.1 percent vs 8 percent) and mining and quarrying (10.8 percent vs 11.5 percent). Prices of water supply, sewage treatment, waste management and regeneration dropped 0.7 percent in October, compared to a 0.8 percent gain in September.

The annual inflation rate in Lithuania increased to 2.9 percent in October 2018 from a downwardly revised 2.1 percent in the prior month. It was the highest inflation rate since May, amid rising prices of transport (9.3% vs 7.5% in September), such as fuel and lubricants (16.7%); and housing & utilities (5.7% vs 2.4%). Also, inflation quickened for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.8% vs 1.9%). Meanwhile, cost eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.2 percent vs 1.0 percent); recreation & culture (1.4% vs 2.1%); health (2.6% vs 2.8%); restaurants & hotels (5.8% vs 6.1) and miscellaneous goods & services (1.9% vs 2.4%).. On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.6 percent, after a downwardly revised 0.4 percent drop in September.

Lithuanian economy shrank 0.4 percent on quarter in the three months to September 2018, following a 0.9 percent growth in the previous period, a preliminary estimate showed. It was the first contraction in GDP since the third quarter of 2010. Negative contributions came from agriculture, forestry and fisheries, mainly due to lower yields of agricultural crops. On the other hand, wholesale and retail trade, repair, transport and storage of motor vehicles and motorcycles; accommodation and catering services and construction contributed positively to growth. Year-on-year, the GDP advanced 2.2 percent, easing from a 3.8 percent expansion in the second quarter. It was the weakest growth rate since the third quarter of 2016.

On a monthly basis, retail trade declined 8.8 percent, after an upwardly revised 4.1 percent gain in August.
