Latvia Unemployment Rate Falls to Lowest Since Q3 202

The unemployment rate in Latvia declined to 6.7% in the second quarter of 2025, the lowest level since Q3 2024, down from 7.4% in the previous quarter.

The number of unemployed persons fell 8.4% quarter-on-quarter to 63.7 thousand, while employed individuals edged up 2.5% to 889.3 thousand.

Joblessness decreased for both men (-13.6%) and women (1.7%).

The share of long-term unemployed—those out of work for 12 months or more—slipped to 33.3% from 33.6% in Q1.

Meanwhile, 30.4% of the population aged 15–74 was economically inactive in Q2 2025, slightly down from 31.7% in the previous quarter.

The unemployment rate in Latvia rose to 6.9% in the third quarter of 2025 from 6.7% in the previous quarter. The number of unemployed persons rose by 2.5 thousand quarter-on-quarter to 66.2 thousand, with male unemployment increasing by 3.7 thousand while female unemployment fell by 1.2 thousand. The share of long-term unemployed, those out of work for 12 months or more, climbed to 39.9% from 33.3% in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the employment rate went up to 65.2% from 64.9%, with the number of employed individuals rising by 2.7 thousand to 892.1 thousand. During this period, 30.0% of the population aged 15–74 was economically inactive, slightly lower than 30.4% in the prior quarter.

Latvia Unemployment Rises to Highest Level Since 2021
The unemployment rate in Latvia rose to 7.4% in Q1 2025, up from 6.9% in the previous quarter, reaching the highest level since Q2 2021. The number of unemployed persons increased by 8.9% to 69.5 thousand, while the number of employed slightly edged up by 0.1% to 868 thousand. Unemployment among women surged by 17%, while male unemployment rose by 3.3%. Despite the overall increase, the share of long-term unemployed (jobless for 12 months or more) declined to 33.6%, down from 38.7%. Meanwhile, 31.7% of the population aged 15–74 was economically inactive in Q1 2025, slightly down from 32.0% in the previous quarter.
