Latvia Inflation Rate Picks up to 4-Month High

The annual inflation rate in Latvia accelerated to 3.5% in May 2026, the highest in four months, from 2.9% in April.
Prices rose faster for housing & utilities (5.8% vs 5.1%), transport (11.1% vs 8.5%), recreation & culture (3.2% vs 1.8%), health (4.9% vs 4.6%), personal care, social protection, various goods and services (4.7% vs 2.9%), restaurants & hotels (9.5% vs 5.6%) and insurance and financial services (3% vs 1.8%).
Meanwhile, inflation was steady for communications (at 2.1%), and cost slowed for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (0.4% vs 0.6%), furnishings & household equipment (0.1% vs 1.2%) and education (3.4% vs 4%).
At the same time, prices fell for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.8% vs -0.3%), and clothing & footwear (-0.1% vs 0.6%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.5% in May, after a 0.6% rise in April.
