Latvia Current Account Deficit Narrows

Latvia's current account deficit narrrowed to €155 million in July 2026, compared with €327 million in the same period last year.

The goods account deficit narrowed to EUR 490 million as export growth (15.4%) outpaced imports (9.9%).

The primary income account swung to a surplus of EUR 42 million, compared with a deficit of EUR 40 million a year earlier, while the secondary income surplus more than doubled to EUR 108 million.

In contrast, the services account narrowed to EUR 184 million.

Latvia Current Account Gap Largest Since 2008
Latvia’s current account deficit widened to EUR 334 million in June 2026, compared with EUR 266 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, marking the largest deficit since April 2008. The goods account shortfall also increased to EUR 509 million from EUR 470 million, while the primary income gap widened sharply to EUR 105 million compared with EUR 31 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, the services account surplus grew to EUR 182 million from EUR 160 million, while the secondary income balance improved to a surplus of EUR 97 million from EUR 75 million a year earlier.

Latvia Current Account Deficit Narrows in May
Latvia recorded a current account deficit of EUR 103 million in May 2026, narrowing from a deficit of EUR 149 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. The services account surplus widened to EUR 184 million from EUR 171 million a year earlier. At the same time, the primary income balance improved, shifting to a surplus of EUR 30 million from a deficit of EUR 44 million, while the secondary income surplus also increased to EUR 88 million from EUR 62 million. Meanwhile, the goods account deficit widened to EUR 406 million from EUR 338 million.
