The AIB Ireland Construction PMI fell to 43.7 in September 2025, down from 45.9 in August, marking the fifth consecutive monthly contraction in the sector.
This also represented the steepest decline since December 2022, driven by a sharper fall in new orders, while employment decreased for the first time in seven months.
The sharpest reduction was seen in civil engineering activity, while commercial activity experienced its largest drop since December 2023.
New orders fell for the second consecutive month, with the pace of decline, although modest, being the fastest in over a year and a half.
Purchasing activity was also scaled back at a solid pace, while suppliers' delivery times continued to lengthen amid reports of staff shortages at vendors and difficulties importing items.
Input cost inflation eased to a ten-month low, while output cost inflation slowed to a three-month low.
Finally, business sentiment weakened slightly and remained below the series average.
