Indonesia Retail Sales Rise the Most in 3 Months

Indonesia’s retail sales grew 4.3% year-on-year in October 2025, accelerating from a 3.7% rise in the previous month and marking the sixth consecutive month of increase.

It was also the strongest growth since July, supported by government efforts to maintain purchasing power, with sales of food, beverages, and tobacco (6.4% vs 5.4% in September) and cultural and recreational goods (6.7% vs 2.6%) both rising at the fastest pace in seven months.

Meanwhile, sales of automotive parts and accessories moderated (12.0% vs 12.4%).

In contrast, sales declined for fuel (-1.0% vs 10.6%), household appliances (-2.3% vs -2.6%), information and communication equipment (-28.3% vs -27.6%), and clothing (-5.8% vs -7.1%).

On a monthly basis, retail activity rose 0.6%, rebounding from a 2.4% decrease in September.

Indonesia’s retail sales grew 3.5% year-on-year in December 2025, slowing from 6.3% in the previous month and marking the eighth consecutive monthly increase, supported by government measures to boost domestic demand. It also marked the softest annual increase since August, with sales growth easing for food, beverages, and tobacco (5.9% vs 8.5% in November), automotive parts and accessories (14.8% vs 17.7%), and cultural and recreational goods (5.2% vs 8.1%). Meanwhile, fuel sales fell 7.1%, reversing a 0.8% increase previously. In addition, sales declined at faster rates for household appliances (-2.8% vs -1.6%), information and communication equipment (-30.0% vs -27.4%), and clothing (-7.0% vs -3.0%). On a monthly basis, retail activity rose 3.1%, up from a 1.5% increase in November and marking the strongest pace in nine months, highlighting resilient momentum in household consumption.

Indonesia’s retail sales rose 6.3% year-on-year in November 2025, accelerating from 4.3% in the previous month and marking the seventh straight month of growth. It was also the fastest annual increase since March 2024, underscoring stronger consumer demand toward year-end as government support measures continued to bolster spending. Sales growth quickened for food, beverages, and tobacco (8.5% vs 6.4% in October), automotive parts and accessories (17.7% vs 12.0%), and cultural and recreational goods (8.1% vs 6.7%). At the same time, fuel sales rose 0.8% after falling 1.0% previously. Meanwhile, sales fell at slower rates for household appliances (-1.6% vs -2.3%), information and communication equipment (-27.4% vs -28.3%), and clothing (-3.0% vs -5.8%). On a monthly basis, retail activity increased 1.5%, steeper than a 0.6% gain in October and the strongest pace in eight months, highlighting resilient momentum in household consumption.
