Indonesia Motorbike Sales Fall 5.5% in December

Motorbike sales in Indonesia dropped 5.5% year-on-year to a 20-month low of 403,480 units in December 2024, after a 10.3% plunge in the previous month.

This marked the second consecutive month of decline in motorbike sales, ahead of additional motorbike taxes taking effect in 2025.

For the full year of 2024, sales grew by 1.5%, reaching 6.3 million units, within the forecast range provided by the Association of Indonesia Motorcycle Industry (AISI) of 6.2 to 6.5 million units.

In 2023, motorbike sales jumped by 19.4% to 6.2 million units, within AISI's target range of 6.1-6.2 million units.

On a monthly basis, motorbike sales slumped 21.3%, following a 5.8% decline in November.

Indonesia Motorbike Sales Rebound Sharply
Motorbike sales in Indonesia jumped 28.1% year-on-year to 520,972 units in April 2026, after slumping 17.1% in the previous month. The sharp rebound came as activity returned to normal following the long Eid al-Fitr holiday, which fell in March. For the first four months of the year, motorbike sales were 2.2% higher compared with the same period last year, reaching 2.14 million units. On a monthly basis, motor sales rose 16.0% in April, recovering sharply from a 30.8% plunge in March, when consumers shifted their spending during Ramadan and ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Motorbike sales in Indonesia plunged 17.1% year-on-year to an eleven-month low of 448,974 units in March 2026, reversing a 1.0% rise in the previous month. This marked the first annual decline in motorbike sales since last July, as consumers shifted their consumption during Ramadan and ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebration. On a monthly basis, sales slumped 23.6% in March, reversing a 1.7% increase in February. For the first quarter of the year, motorbike sales were 4.1% higher compared with the same period last year.

Indonesia Motorbike Sales Up 1% in February
Motorbike sales in Indonesia rose 1.0% year-on-year to a four-month high of 587,354 units in February 2026, following a 3.1% increase in the previous month. This was the seventh straight month of growth. Exports of Completely Built-Up (CBU) motorcycles jumped 31.4%, following a 29.5% rise in January. Meanwhile, Completely Knocked Down (CKD) shipments declined 14.0% after a 0.1% drop a month ago. On a monthly basis, sales increased 1.7% in February, a sharp slowdown from the 25.1% growth recorded in January. For the January-February period, motorbike sales were 2.1% higher compared with the same period last year.
