Finland CPI Fall for 1st Time in Over 5 Years

Finland’s annual consumer prices fell 0.2% in October 2025, reversing a 0.5% increase in the previous month.

This marked the first deflation in over five years as prices tumbled for clothing and footwear (-0.30% vs 0.71% in September).

Prices also fell further for housing and utilities (-2.99% vs -1.45%), miscellaneous goods and services (-2.58% vs -2.50%), and transportation (-0.93% vs -0.68%).

At the same time, inflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.59% vs 2.47%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (2.66% vs 3.44%), health (5.53% vs 6.18%), and recreation and culture (2.32% vs 2.60%).

In contrast, prices accelerated for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (0.68% vs 0.19%), communication (4.37% vs 4.06%), and restaurants and hotels (1.49% vs 1.41%).

Meanwhile, inflation was steady for education (at 2.84%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.2% in October, following a 0.3% rise in September.

Consumer prices in Finland rose 0.6% year-on-year in February 2026, rebounding from a 0.2% decline in January. This marked the highest reading since January 2025, largely due to a significant easing of deflation in housing and utilities (-0.2% vs -2.3% in January) and prices stalling in transport (0% vs -0.2%). Overall inflation was also driven by higher consumer prices in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (3.9% vs 1.6%), recreation, sport and culture (1.7% vs 1.3%), and restaurants and accommodation (2.6% vs 2%). In contrast, costs edged down for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.4% vs 1.6%) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.6% vs 3.7%), while it declined for clothing and footwear (-0.1% vs 0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased to a more than three-year high of 1.1%, recovering from a 0.2% drop in the previous month. Meanwhile, the harmonized consumer prices rose 1.8% from 1% in January, marking its highest level since September.

Consumer prices in Finland fell by 0.2% year-on-year in January 2026, reversing a 0.2% rise in the previous month. Main downward pressure came from declines in costs for housing and utilities (-2.3% vs -2% in December), health (-0.1% vs 5.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (-4.9% vs -2%). Additionally, inflation moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.6% vs 2%), information and communication (2.5% vs 4.2%), and recreation, sport and culture (1.3% vs 1.9%). On the other hand, prices increased for alcoholic beverages (3.7% vs 2.3%), clothing and footwear (0.3% vs -0.4%), and education services (11.1% vs 2.8%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.2% in January, slipping from a 0.2% gain in the preceding period.

Consumer prices in Finland rose 0.2% year-on-year in December 2025, rebounding from a 0.1% drop in the previous month. Prices increased faster for food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.0% vs 1.7% in November), communication (4.2% vs 3.6%), recreation and culture (1.9% vs 1.1%), and restaurants and hotels (2.2% vs 2.0%), while they remained steady for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (2.3%), health (5.6%), and education (2.8%). At the same time, deflation moderated in clothing and footwear (-0.4% vs -0.8%), housing and utilities (-2.0% vs -2.4%), and miscellaneous goods and services (-2.0% vs -2.4%). In contrast, transportation costs continued to decline (-0.5% vs -0.3%), while prices for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance remained unchanged (-0.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices grew by 0.2% in December, rebounding from a 0.2% fall over the previous two months.
