Estonia Retail Sales Rise at Faster Pace

Retail sales in Estonia rose by 6.1% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from a 4.1% increase in the previous month. This marked the fastest growth since March, driven by stronger sales of non-food products excluding fuel, which increased by 8.0% after rising 3.0% in July. Meanwhile, sales slowed in automotive fuel in specialised stores (4.5% vs 6.6% in July) and food, beverages and tobacco (2.5% vs 3.0%). On a monthly basis, total retail trade volume declined by 1.4%, reversing a 2.8% gain in the preceding period, while sales increased by 1% on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis. In the first eight months of 2026, retail sales volume was 4% higher than in the same period of 2025.

Retail sales in Estonia rose by 4.1% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating from a 0.8% increase in the previous month. The growth was mainly driven by stronger sales of automotive fuel, which increased by 6.6% from a year earlier (vs 0.4% in June). Sales of food, beverages and tobacco (3.0% vs 1.0%) and non-food products excluding fuel (3.0% vs -0.1%) also increased. On a monthly basis, total retail trade volume increased by 2.8%, following a 1.9% gain in the preceding period, while sales gained 1% on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis. In the first seven months of 2026, retail sales volume was 4% higher than in the same period of 2025.

Retail sales in Estonia rose 0.8% year-on-year in June 2026, rebounding from a 1.1% decline in the previous month. Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco recovered, rising 1.0% following a 0.4% decline in May, while the drop in sales of non-food products excluding fuel eased significantly to 0.1% from 4.6%. Meanwhile, sales growth for automotive fuel in specialised stores slowed to 0.4% from 2.3% in the previous month. On a monthly basis, retail sales climbed 1.9% in June from a modest 0.1% increase in May and marking the strongest monthly gain since March.
