Estonia Inflation Rate at Near 2-Year High

The annual inflation rate in Estonia slowed to 3.1% in February 2026 from 3.7% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since September 2024, mainly driven by declines in costs for clothing and footwear (-5.7% vs -4.9% in January) and insurance and financial services (-13.3% vs -14.5%). At the same time, inflation softened for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.5% vs 6%), housing (1.5% vs 5.6%), recreation and culture (2.3% vs 3,1%), and restaurants and accommodation services (4.6% vs 5.1%). On the other hand, prices increased at a faster pace for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.9% vs 6.2%), healthcare (12% vs 11.7%), and information and communication (1.7% vs -0.1%), while transport costs declined less (-0.4% vs -1.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.8% in February, following a 1% increase in the preceding period.

This marked the lowest reading since November 2024, mainly driven by lower prices for clothing and footwear (-4.9% vs -6.6% in December), information and communication (-0.2% vs 2.2%), transport (-1.5% vs 7.6%), and insurance and financial services (-14.5% vs -13.2%). Additionally, inflation softened for education services (0.9% vs 1.7%) and miscellaneous goods and services (5.1% vs 7.7%). On the other hand, prices increased at a faster rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages (6% vs 5.6%), alcohol and tobacco (6.2% vs 5.3%), and housing (5.6% vs 0.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1% in January, marking the first month of growth in five months and rebounding from a 0.6% decline in the preceding period.

The annual inflation rate in Estonia eased to 4.1% in December 2025 from 4.9% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since January, as price growth moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.6% vs 6.5% in November), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.3% vs 5.8%), housing utilities (0.7% vs 3.3%), and transportation (7.6% vs 10.6%). At the same time, costs remained steady for health (11.1%) and hotels, cafes, and restaurants (5.3%), while it declined further for clothing and footwear (-6.6% vs -5.7%). Meanwhile, prices increased for household goods (2.7% vs 1.9%), communication (4.4% 2.4%), education (1.7% vs 1.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5% vs 4.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.6% in December, following a 0.2% drop in the preceding period. Over the year, Estonia saw a 4.8% increase in its inflation rate compared to the average last year.
