Danish Jobless Rate Unchanged for Fourth Straight Month

Denmark’s unemployment rate stood at 2.7% in May 2026, unchanged for the fourth consecutive month and remaining at its highest level since September 2021.

The number of unemployed persons rose by 0.5 thousand from the previous month to 81.8 thousand.

The unemployment rate for men held steady at 3.0%, while the rate for women remained at 3.1%.

Recipients of unemployment benefits increased by 0.3 thousand to 71.5 thousand, while those receiving cash assistance rose by 0.1 thousand to 10.2 thousand.

Unemployment rates were unchanged across all age groups, for 16–24 (1.6%), 25–29 (4.9%), 30–39 (4.2%), 40–49 (2.7%), 50–59 (2.3%), and 60 years and over (3.2%).

Recipients of unemployment benefits rose by 0.4 thousand to 71.3 thousand, while cash assistance recipients increased by 0.2 thousand to 10.1 thousand. Among age groups, youth unemployment, covering job seekers aged 16 to 24, edged up to 1.6% from 1.5% in March, while the rates for those aged 25 to 29 and 30 to 39 remained unchanged at 4.9% and 4.2%, respectively.

The number of unemployed persons declined by 1.7 thousand from a month earlier to 80.9 thousand, with the unemployment for men rising slightly to 3.1% from 2.9% in February, and for women it edging up to 3.1% from 3.0%. Net unemployment benefits fell by 1.9 thousand to 71 thousand, while cash assistance recipients increased by 0.1 thousand to 9.9 thousand. Among age groups, youth unemployment, covering job seekers aged 16 to 24, edged up to 1.6% from 1.5%, as did the rate for those aged 25 to 29 (5.0% vs 4.8%), 30 to 39 year olds (4.2% vs 4.1%), 40 to 49 year olds (2.7% vs 2.6%), 50 to 59 year olds (2.3% vs 2.2%), and 60 to 66 year olds (3.2% vs 3.1%).
