Danish Jobless Rate Steady at 2.6% for 5th Month

Denmark’s unemployment rate rose to 2.6% in January 2026, remaining unchanged over the past four months.

The number of unemployed increased slightly by 0.2 thousand to 78.5 thousand, while unemployment rates remained unchanged for both men (2.9%) and women (3%).

Net unemployment benefits rose by 0.1 thousand to 68.8 thousand, and cash assistance recipients also grew by 0.1 thousand to 9.7 thousand, mainly due to a higher influx of Ukrainians with residence permits who are considered job-ready.

Meanwhile, youth unemployment, covering job seekers aged 16 to 24, remained at 1.5%, as did the rate for those aged 25 to 29 at 4.8%.

For individuals aged 60–66, the number of unemployed rose by 0.1 thousand to 3.1 thousand, while rates for other age groups remained unchanged.

Denmark’s unemployment rate held steady at 2.6% in December 2025, unchanged from the previous three months and remaining at its highest level since November 2024. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 0.3 thousand from a month earlier to 78.7 thousand, with the unemployment rate for men edging up to 2.9% from 2.8%, while the rate for women stood at 3%. Net unemployment benefit recipients rose by 0.1 thousand to 69 thousand, while cash assistance recipients grew by 0.2 thousand to 9.7 thousand, mainly due to an increased influx of Ukrainians with residence permits who are considered job-ready. Meanwhile, the youth unemployment rate, representing job-seekers aged 16 to 24, increased by 0.2 percentage points to 1.5% and by 0.1 percentage points to 4.9% for those aged 25 to 29, while it remained unchanged for other aged groups.

Net unemployment benefit recipients decreased by 0.2 thousand to 68.9 thousand, while cash assistance recipients rose by 0.4 thousand to 9.5 thousand, mainly due to an increased influx of Ukrainians with residence permits who are considered job-ready. Meanwhile, the youth unemployment rate, representing job-seekers aged 16 to 24, edged up by 0.1 percentage points to 1.3%, while it decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 4.8% for those aged 25-29 and remained unchanged for the other age groups.
