Danish Manufacturing Output Slips

Denmark’s manufacturing production fell 3.9% month-on-month in May 2026, following an upwardly revised 1% drop in the previous month. Output declined in textile, clothing, and leather (-11.5% vs 2.1% in April), cement and concrete (-0.8% vs 3.4%), metal and metal products (-7.7% vs 4.8%), electrical equipment (-1.5% vs 2.3%), machinery (-8.2% vs 6.6%), engines, wind turbines, and pumps (-9.1% vs 10.5%), and other machinery (-7.1% vs 2.4%). On the other hand, production recovered in dairies (0.9% vs -2%), bakeries and bread factories (2.7% vs -5.8%), wood, paper, and printing (1.3% vs -2.2%), rubber, plastic, and glass (1.4% vs -0.7%), and furniture (5.5% vs -0.2%). On a seasonally adjusted annual basis, manufacturing activity rose by 6.4% in May, easing from an upwardly revised 13.1% growth in the preceding period.

Denmark’s manufacturing production fell 1.1% month-on-month in April 2026, following a downwardly revised 8.3% growth in the previous month. Output declined in food, beverages, and tobacco (-2.7% vs 5.5% in March), wood and paper products (-2.1% vs 2.1%), pharmaceutical products (-2.5% vs 15%), electronics (-15.8% vs 37%), rubber, plastic, glass, and concrete products (-1% vs 15.5%), and transportation (-2.2% vs 19.5%). At the same time, activity moderated for textile, clothing, and leather products (2.4% vs 9.5%). Meanwhile, production increased for metal and metal products (5% vs 0.4%), while production recovered for petroleum and chemical products (1.3% vs -0.9%). On a seasonally adjusted annual basis, manufacturing activity jumped 13% in April, easing from a revised 21.1% gain in the preceding period.

Denmark’s manufacturing production climbed by 8.6% month-on-month in March 2026, rebounding from an upwardly revised 4.5% drop in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth in manufacturing activity since late September, largely driven by a 37% surge (vs -14.9% in February) in the output of the electronics industry. Production in the pharmaceutical industry, the most important sector, which accounted for 20% of total manufacturing output, also increased by 15% (vs 8.2%). Other notable improvements came from transport (19.5% vs -11.1%), rubber, plastic, glass and concrete (15.5% vs -5.4%), and textile, clothing and leather (9.7% vs -5.8%). Meanwhile, output in the petroleum and chemical (-0.9% vs -5.7%) and machinery industry (-0.6% vs 4.8%) decreased. On a non-seasonally adjusted annual basis, manufacturing activity rose by 20.7% in March, the fastest increase since October 2024, accelerating from a 6.4% gain in February.
