Danish Consumer Morale Improves to 1-Year High

Denmark’s consumer confidence index increased to -13.4 in January 2026 from -17.3 in the previous month.

This marked the highest reading since January 2025, driven by a better assessment of household's current financial situation, climbing to -8.2, the highest level since March 2025, from -15.7 in December.

Expectations for the national economy over the next 12 months also became less pessimistic (-15.8 vs -21.0), while outlooks for household finances in a year edged closer to neutral (-1.5 vs -4).

However, consumers continued to view Denmark’s current economic situation as weaker than a year ago (-24.4 vs -28.7) and sentiment toward major purchases remained subdued (-17.2 vs -17.3), reflecting ongoing caution.

Among other indicators, consumers reported higher prices than a year earlier (44.5 vs 50.8) but expected slower price increases ahead (18.1 vs 26.1), while expectations for higher unemployment over the coming year remained elevated (15.6 vs 15.7).

Denmark’s consumer confidence index rose to -13.1 in February 2026 from -13.4 in the previous month, marking the highest reading since January 2025. Expectations regarding the overall economic situation improved for both the present (-20.7 vs -24.4 in January) and the future (-12.8 vs -15.8). At the same time, households’ outlook for their financial situation a year ahead continued to become less pessimistic, moving closer to neutral (-0.8 vs -1.5). In contrast, assessments of current household finances deteriorated. (-12.4 vs -8.2). Sentiment toward major purchases also weakened, both for the present (-18.7 vs -17.2) and for the year ahead (-6.4 vs -4.3). Among components not included in the overall confidence indicator, consumers reported slower price increases for both the current situation (33.2 vs 44.5) and the coming year (11.9 vs 18.1). In addition, concerns about unemployment over the next 12 months eased, with the indicator improving to 13.2 from 15.6.

Danish Consumer Mood Highest in 4 Months
Denmark’s consumer confidence index increased to -17.3 in December 2025 from -20.1 in the previous month. It marked the highest reading since August, supported by improvements in sentiment about the country’s economic situation over the past 12 months (-28.7 vs -34.4 in November), as well as expectations for the next 12 months (-21.0 vs -27.2). At the same time, consumers’ expectations regarding the climate for major purchases at present (-17.3 vs -19.5) and for the coming year (-8.8 vs -9.1) were both less pessimistic. Meanwhile, households reported a slight deterioration in their personal financial situation (-15.7 vs -15.1). Among components not included in the overall confidence indicator, concerns about unemployment over the next 12 months declined (15.7 vs 8.6), and expectations for price developments in the coming year also decreased (26.1 vs 30.8).
