Retail sales in the Czech Republic rose by 3.5% year-on-year in August 2025, exceeding market expectations of a 3.2% increase and accelerating from a downwardly revised 2.2% gain in the previous month.
The advance was mainly driven by higher sales of automotive fuel (10.9% vs 7.6% in July) and non-food products (4.1% vs 3.4%).
Additionally, trade of food, beverages and tobacco declined at a lesser extent (-0.1% vs -1.1%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity increased by 0.6% in August, rebounding from a 0.4% fall in the preceding period.
