Bulgaria Construction Output at 4-Month Low

Construction output in Bulgaria increased 5.6% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from an upwardly revised 6.9% growth in the previous month and marking the weakest expansion since January.

Growth moderated across most segments, notably in building construction (9.6% vs 12.3% in April) and civil engineering (2.7% vs 5.0%), while specialized construction activities grew at a slightly faster pace (3.4% vs 2.4%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output fell 0.8%, slipping further from a 0.1% drop in April.

The monthly contraction was driven by declines in building construction (-0.9% vs -0.6%), civil engineering (-1.2% vs 0.8%), and specialized construction activities (-0.3% vs 0%).

Construction output in Bulgaria rose 6.6% year-on-year in April 2026, following a downwardly revised 6.5% rise in March. Growth moderated for building construction (12.5% vs 12.6%), civil engineering works (3.1% vs 5.7%) and in specialized construction activities (3% vs 3.9%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output edged down by 0.1%, following a 0.2% drop in March. Building construction fell 0.3% and civil engineering declined 0.2% while specialized construction activities rose 0.4%.

Bulgaria Construction Output Growth Slows in March
Construction output in Bulgaria rose 7.7% year-on-year in March 2026, slowing from an upwardly revised 9.7% increase in the previous month. Growth moderated in both building construction (12.6% vs 16.9% in February) and civil engineering works (5.7% vs 7.4%). Meanwhile, specialized construction activities continued to rise (3.9% vs 3.8%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output increased 0.6%, decelerating from an upwardly revised 4.0% rise in February. Building construction fell slightly (-0.2% vs 3.0%), while activity slowed down in civil engineering (0.1% vs 3.2%) and specialized construction (1.8% vs 5.9%).
