Bulgaria´s current account surplus widened considerably to EUR 1140.7 million in July 2017 from EUR 690.3 million in the same month a year earlier, reaching the highest surplus on record since at least 1998. The goods and services surplus rose to EUR 795 million from EUR 701.3 million a year ago and the primary income account swung to a EUR 44.5 million surplus compared with a deficit of EUR 83.4 million in the same period a year earlier. In addition, the secondary income surplus widened to EUR 301.2 million from EUR 72.4 million. In the first seven months of 2017, the current account surplus fell to EUR 1568.4 million from EUR 1667.2 million in the corresponding period of 2016.

On the other hand, it slowed for restaurants and hotels (2.3 percent vs 2.4 percent) while prices fell more for recreation and culture (-4.4 percent vs -4.0 percent) and clothing and footwear (-2.5 percent vs -1.7 percent in July). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent.

Bulgaria GDP Annual Growth Rate at 3.60 percent  
Bulgaria's economy advanced 3.6 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, following a 3.5 percent growth in the previous quarter, in line with preliminary estimates, final figures showed. It is the strongest pace of expansion since the second quarter of 2016, led by household expenditure (4.1 percent vs 5 percent in Q1) and government consumption (2.3 percent vs 3.9 percent), while fixed investment declined at a slower pace (-1 percent vs -4.6 percent). Also, exports continued to rise (6.5 percent vs 5.8 percent) but imports grew faster (7.7 percent vs 7.1 percent). On a quarterly basis, the gross domestic product grew 1 percent, compared to a 0.9 percent expansion in the previous period and above preliminary estimates of a 0.9 percent increase. Yet, it is the strongest growth since the first quarter of 2015.
