Bulgaria GDP Annual Growth Rate at 3.40 percent  
Bulgaria's economy advanced 3.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018 compared to a 3.6 percent growth in the previous period, the preliminary estimates showed. It was the slowest expansion since the second quarter of 2015. Gross fixed capital formation rose at a slower pace (4.4 percent vs 7.0 percent in Q1); and net external trade contributed negatively to growth as exports grew less (2.7 percent vs 4.4 percent) while imports rose at the same pace (4.6 percent). In contrast, final consumption increased robustly (4.7 percent vs 3.3 percent). On a quarterly basis, the gross domestic product went up 0.8 percent, slowing from a 0.9 percent rise in the first quarter of 2018.

Considering the first half of the year, the trade deficit rose to BGN 2,886.8 million from BGN 1,512.4 million in the same period of the previous year.

Bulgaria's retail sales increased by 6.1 percent from a year earlier in June 2018, following a 6.3 percent rise in the previous month. The slowdown in retail trade growth was due to a decline in sales of automotive fuel (-1.7 percent vs 1 percent in May). On the other hand, sales of food, beverages and tobacco jumped 11.3 percent (vs 10.5 percent in May) and those of non-food products advanced 4.4 percent (vs 4.3 percent in May), in particular medical and orthopedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (15.6 percent vs 10.3 percent) and textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (2.8 percent vs -6.7 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade moved up 0.4 percent.
