It was the highest inflation rate since April, mainly driven by rising prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.2 percent vs 3.9 percent); housing and utilities (4.7 percent vs 4 percent) and restaurants and hotels (3 percent vs 2.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up 0.6 percent, compared to a 0.2 percent gain in September.

Bulgaria's economy advanced 3.9 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2017, following an upwardly revised 3.7 percent growth in the previous quarter. It is the strongest expansion since the last quarter of 2016, led by final consumption (4.6 percent compared to 3.8 percent in Q2) and fixed investment (4.2 percent compared to 3.9 percent). In addition, exports continued to rise (4.4 percent compared to 3.7 percent) and imports advanced at a slower pace (6.2 percent compared to 6.5 percent). On a quarterly basis, the gross domestic product grew 0.9 percent, compared to a 1 percent expansion in the previous period.

It was the weakest expansion in industrial activity since January when it contracted 1 percent. In September, output grew at a slower pace for both manufacturing (4.3 percent vs 5.2 percent in August) and mining and quarrying (7.7 percent vs 13 percent). Meanwhile, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply contracted less (-3.5 percent vs -3.8 percent).
