Belgium Trade Surplus Widens to Nearly 3-Year High

Belgium recorded a trade surplus of EUR 4,481.8 million in February 2026, widening from EUR 2,677.6 million in the corresponding month of the previous year.
This also marked the largest surplus since September 2023 as exports fell softer than imports.
Exports fell 2.0% year-on-year to EUR 40,949 million, driven by lower shipments to EU countries (-1.4%) and non-EU countries (-3.2%).
Imports decreased by 6.7% to EUR 36,467.2 million, reflecting reduced purchases from both EU countries (-0.1%) and non-EU countries (-17.5%).
Considering the first two months of 2026, the country posted a trade surplus of EUR 7,769.3 million, expanding from EUR 2,890.5 million in the same period a year earlier.
