Austria Wholesale Inflation Slows in June

Wholesale prices in Austria increased by 5.4% year-on-year in June 2026, easing from an over three-year high of 6.9% in May.

The slowdown was mainly driven by lower prices for live animals (-13.8%), grain, seeds and animal feeds (-6.7%), motor vehicles (-4.6%), fruits and vegetables (-2.6%), paper and paperboard (-1.3%), and radio, television, recording and reproduction equipment (-1.0%).

Meanwhile, prices accelerated for plastics and rubber in primary forms (+47.3%), other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (+23.4%), non-ferrous metals (+19.5%), waste and scrap (+18.5%), information and communication equipment (+16.3%), motor spirit (+16.3%), other machinery and equipment (+13.9%), and solid fuels (+11.3%).

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices fell 0.7% in June, reversing a 0.1% rise in the previous month.

Wholesale prices in Austria rose by 6.9% year-on-year in May 2026, accelerating from a 6.7% rise in the previous month and marking the strongest annual gain since February 2023. The increase was primarily driven by price increases for plastics and rubber in primary forms (53.1%), other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (44.9%), and motor spirit (30.1%). Additional upward pressure came from higher prices for non-iron metals (16.9%), information and communication equipment (15.5%), waste and scrap (14.7%), other machinery and equipment (11.7%), watches and jewellery (11.4%), solid fuels (10.5%), and iron and steel (10.1%). On a monthly basis, wholesale prices edged up 0.1% in May, slowing from a 1.1% increase in the previous month.

Austria Wholesale Prices Rise Further
Wholesale prices in Austria increased by 6.7% year-on-year in April 2026, accelerating from a 5.4% rise in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since February 2023, as the war in the Middle East drove a sharp increase in energy costs. Prices rose sharply for other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (54.8%), plastics and rubber in primary forms (39.4%), and motor spirit (32.3%). Additional upward pressure came from higher prices for watches and jewelry (14.5%), non-iron metals (13.8%), information and communication equipment (13.6%), and waste and scrap (10.5%). Prices also increased for flowers and plants (9.8%), coffee, tea, cocoa and spices (9.6%), other machinery and equipment (9.5%), iron and steel (8.3%), solid fuels (8.1%), and flat glass (8.0%). On a monthly basis, wholesale prices rose by 1.1%, easing from a 3.9% increase in March.
