Austria Industrial Production Drop Eases in August

Austria’s industrial production fell by 0.5% year-on-year in August 2026, easing from a revised one-year low of 0.7% in the previous month.

Output in the industrial sector declined at a slower pace (-1.2% vs -1.7% in July), while production growth in the other sector moderated to 1.4% from 2.4%.

Among the main industrial groupings, output growth accelerated in intermediate goods (5.2% vs 4.5%), while the decline in consumer non-durables eased sharply (-0.1% vs -17.4%).

In contrast, output fell further in energy (-13.0% vs -5.5%) and declined in capital goods (-2.5% vs 1.5%) and consumer durables (-2.6% vs 9.1%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output fell by 0.9% in August, following an upwardly revised 0.1% decline in the previous month.

Austria Industrial Output Falls to Lowest Since 2024
Austria’s industrial production fell by 1.1% year-on-year in July 2026, following flat readings in the previous two months. This marked the lowest reading since December 2024, as growth slowed sharply in the construction sector (0.5% vs 5.6% in June). Moreover, production declined further in the industrial sector (-1.6% vs -1.5%). Among the main industrial groupings, activity moderated in consumer durables (11.4% vs 12.4%), while production fell at a faster pace for consumer non-durables (-16.3% vs -7.0%). Capital goods also fell to 0.6% from a 0.1% gain. In contrast, the decline in energy production slowed (-4.2% vs -4.6%), while production increased in intermediate goods (5.8% vs 0.5%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output dropped by 0.2% in July, following a 0.5% growth in the preceding period.

Austria Industrial Output Unchanged in June
Industrial production in Austria was unchanged in June 2026 from the same month a year earlier, following a flat reading in May. The industry sector continued to contract (-1.5% vs -0.7% in May), while construction activity grew at a faster pace (5.6% vs 3.1%). Among the main industrial groupings, consumer non-durables declined further (-7.0% vs -3.0%), while growth in intermediate goods slowed (0.5% vs 1.3%). Meanwhile, energy production fell at a softer pace (-4.6% vs -7.8%), whereas output for capital goods edged up (0.1% vs -0.7%) and consumer durables rose sharply (12.4% vs 9.6%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production rose by 0.5%, rebounding from a 0.3% fall in the previous month.
