Austria Industrial Output Unchanged in June

Industrial production in Austria was unchanged in June 2026 from the same month a year earlier, following a flat reading in May. The industry sector continued to contract (-1.5% vs -0.7% in May), while construction activity grew at a faster pace (5.6% vs 3.1%). Among the main industrial groupings, consumer non-durables declined further (-7.0% vs -3.0%), while growth in intermediate goods slowed (0.5% vs 1.3%). Meanwhile, energy production fell at a softer pace (-4.6% vs -7.8%), whereas output for capital goods edged up (0.1% vs -0.7%) and consumer durables rose sharply (12.4% vs 9.6%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production rose by 0.5%, rebounding from a 0.3% fall in the previous month.

Industrial production in Austria rose 0.7% year-on-year in May 2026, slightly accelerating from a downwardly revised 0.1% reading in the previous month. Growth was driven mainly by a rebound in construction sector (3.0% vs -2.4% in April), while industrial activity expanded at a slower pace (0.1% vs. 0.8%). Among the main industrial groupings, consumer durables posted the strongest growth (11.5% vs 5.1%), and intermediate goods output accelerated (2.0% vs. 0.4%). By contrast, energy output fell (-4.0% vs. 1.2%), capital goods production turned negative (-1.7% vs. 1.3%), and consumer non-durables declined further (-3.0% vs. -2.8%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production increased 0.3% in May.

The increase was driven mainly by a rebound in the construction sector (1.6% vs -0.7% in March) and a modest increase in industrial production (0.4% vs 0.3%). Among the main industrial groupings, capital goods recorded the strongest growth (4.0% vs 2.5%). Output growth slowed for intermediate goods (1.9% vs 2.0%) and consumer durables (4.0% vs 9.2%). Meanwhile, the decline in energy output eased (-5.2% vs -11.3%), while consumer non-durables fell at a faster pace (-5.8% vs -3.0%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output decreased 0.1% in April.
