Argentina Unemployment Rises in Q1 2026

Argentina’s unemployment rate rose to 7.8% in the first quarter of 2026, up from 7.5% in the previous quarter.

The number of unemployed reached 1.1 million people.

By region, unemployment was highest in Greater Buenos Aires at 8.7%, followed by the Pampas region at 8.2%.

The jobless rate stood at 8.3% for women and 7.5% for men.

Among the unemployed, 28.2% were the main income providers in their households.

By education level, 36% had completed secondary education, while 10.8% had tertiary or university studies.

Regarding job-search duration, 31.8% had been looking for work for more than a year, while 78.7% had previous work experience.

By sector, 16.8% had last worked in construction and 16.6% in commerce.

Meanwhile, the employment rate edged down to 44.8% from 45%, while labor force participation remained stable at 48.6%.

Argentina’s unemployment rate rose to 7.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 6.6% in the previous period. Joblessness stood at 8.1% for women and 7.0% for men. Regionally, unemployment was highest in Greater Buenos Aires (8.6%) and the Pampeana region (7.7%). Among the unemployed, 66.8% had completed at most secondary education, while 33.2% had some tertiary or university education. Regarding job-search duration, 69.9% had been seeking work for up to 12 months, while 30.1% had been unemployed for more than one year. Meanwhile, the employment rate edged down to 45.0% from 45.4%, while the labor force participation rate remained stable at 48.6%.

Argentina’s unemployment rate eased to 6.6% in the third quarter of 2025, down from 7.6% in the previous period and marking the lowest level since Q4 2024. Joblessness stood at 7.4% for women and 5.9% for men. Regionally, unemployment was highest in the Pampeana region (7.5%) and Greater Buenos Aires (6.8%). Among the unemployed, 69.5% had completed at most secondary education, while 30.6% had some tertiary or university education. Regarding job-search duration, 71.1% had been seeking work for up to 12 months, while 28.8% had been unemployed for more than one year. Meanwhile, the employment rate edged down to 45.4% from 44.5%, while the labor force participation rate rose to 48.6% from 48.1%.
