Argentina Trade Surplus Widens in August

Argentina’s trade surplus widened to $2.19 billion in August 2026, up $746 million from the same month of 2025.

Exports totaled $8.88 billion, increasing 12.4% year over year.

All categories recorded higher export values than in August 2025, except primary products, which declined 14.2%.

Energy and fuel exports grew 41.2%, manufactured industrial goods increased 18%, and manufactured agricultural goods rose 16.7%.

Imports totaled $6.70 billion, up 3.6% year over year.

The economic-use category with the largest percentage increase was fuels and lubricants, which rose 68.5%.

Intermediate goods increased 13.4%, while capital goods imports rose 3.1% and consumer goods purchases declined 5.1%.

Argentina’s trade surplus widened to $2.11 billion in July 2026, up $1.21 billion from the same month of 2025. Exports totaled $8.85 billion, increasing 14.1% year-over-year, led by a 97.8% surge in energy and fuel exports, driven by higher shipments of crude oil, fuels, lubricants and other fuels. Manufactured industrial goods exports rose 11.2%, mainly due to higher exports of motor vehicles and transport equipment, while manufactured agricultural goods increased 4.9%, supported by higher meat exports. Imports totaled $6.74 billion, down 1.7% year-over-year. Intermediate goods posted the largest decline, falling 14.9%, while capital goods imports decreased 7.7% and consumer goods fell 7.3%. Imports of fuels and lubricants also declined 7.3%.

Argentina Trade Surplus Widens in June
Argentina's trade surplus widened to $2.19 billion in June 2026 from $0.88 billion a year earlier, marking its 31st consecutive month of positive trade balances. Exports rose 24.5% year-on-year to $9.06 billion, with growth broad-based across all major categories. Agricultural manufactures surged 31.6%, driven by higher shipments of fats and oils, food industry residues and waste, and meat products. Industrial manufactures also advanced 31.4%, supported mainly by chemicals and related products, as well as base metals and metal products. Exports of fuels and energy climbed 31.1%, as higher international prices more than offset lower shipment volumes. Imports increased 7.3% to $6.86 billion, driven primarily by fuels and lubricants, whose purchases soared 126.3%. Imports of intermediate goods rose 9.5%, while consumer goods increased 3.3%. In contrast, capital goods fell 8.0%, parts and accessories for capital goods declined 9.4%, and motor vehicle imports dropped 10.6%.
