Uganda Inflation Rate Up to Over 1-Year High of 4%

The annual inflation rate in Uganda quickened to 4% in September 2025, the steepest since July 2024, up from 3.8% previously.

Prices accelerated primarily for food & non-alcoholic beverages (5.2% vs 3.7% in August), while remaining elevated for insurance & financial services (16.4%); education (6.3%); and restaurants & hotels (5.6%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in September, after a 0.2% increase in the prior month.

Uganda Inflation Rate Steady at 1-Year Low
The annual inflation rate in Uganda stood at 3.1% in December 2025, the lowest since November 2024, unchanged from the prior month. Price growth remained stable for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (at 1.6%); information & communication (at 2.2%); education (at 7.6%) and insurance and financial services (at 10.1%). Meanwhile, prices of transportation (0.1% vs 1.4%) and restaurants and hotels (4.7% vs 5.2%) slowed significantly. On the other hand, faster increases were seen mostly for health (4.3% vs 3.8%); food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.5% vs 2.9%) and housing & utilities (2.5% vs 2.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in December, after decreasing by 0.1% in the previous month.
