The economy of Uganda advanced 3.7 percent year-on-year in the first three months of 2017, compared to an upwardly revised 1.8 percent expansion in the previous period. It is the strongest growth rate since the first quarter of 2016, mainly due to a recovery in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.7 percent vs -5.5 percent in Q4) and a further rise in services (5.9 percent vs 3.2 percent in Q4). Meanwhile, industrial sector grew at a slower pace (0.6 percent vs 3.3 percent in Q4). On a quarterly basis, the GDP advanced 1.8 percent, accelerating from a 1.4 percent rise in the previous quarter.
