Thailand’s annual inflation rate surged to 3.9% in October 2026 from 2.82% in September, exceeding market expectations of 3.33% and breaching the Bank of Thailand’s 1%-3% target range for the first time in more than three years.
The reading marked the highest level since January 2023.
The acceleration was driven largely by higher oil prices and flood-related increases in food costs, reflecting elevated raw material costs and the impact of the conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, annual core inflation rose to 1.58% from 1.50% in September, remaining its highest level since May 2023 but remaining slightly below market forecasts of 1.6%.
The Commerce Ministry expects headline inflation to average 1.8%-2.2% in 2026, although price pressures may remain elevated through year-end partly due to a low base effect.
Despite the breach, officials expect the increase to be temporary, while the Bank of Thailand has maintained its policy rate at 1% amid subdued domestic demand.
