Slovenia Jobless Rate Edges Up in July

Slovenia’s unemployment rate edged up to 4.4% in July 2026 from 4.3% in the previous month. The number of unemployed people increased by 1,012 from the previous month to 43,257, while declining by 542 year-on-year. Unemployment among those aged over 55 accounted for the largest share of unemployment (24.2%), followed by those aged 40–49 (23.9%) and those aged 30–39 (21.4%). Meanwhile, the share of unemployed people with tertiary education rose to 19.3% from 18.5% in the previous month, while first-time jobseekers accounted for 16.6%, down from 17.7%. The share of those unemployed for more than a year eased to 37.9% from 38.7% in June, while the share of those unemployed for more than two years also moderated to 20.9% from 21.6%.

Slovenia’s unemployment rate edged down to 4.3% in June 2026, from 4.4% in May, matching the level recorded in June 2025, which marked the lowest rate on record. The number of unemployed fell 1.9% month-on-month to 42,245, driven by declines among both men (-2.1%) and women (-1.7%). Unemployment decreased across all age groups, while most of unemployment is comprised of people over the age of 55, while unemployed between the ages of 30-39 and 40-49 also account for a large share. Meanwhile, the share of unemployed people with tertiary education increased to 18.5% from 18%. First-time jobseekers accounted for 17.4%, down from 17.7%, while the share of those unemployed for more than a year rose to 38.7%. Job vacancies increased to 15 thousand, the highest level since July 2025.

Slovenia’s unemployment rate edged down to 4.4% in May 2026 from 4.5% in the previous month, marking its lowest level since June 2025. The total number of unemployed persons declined by 1,115 from the previous month to 43,060. Women accounted for 20,905 unemployed individuals, representing 48.5% of the total, while men made up the remaining 51.5%, or 22,155 people. Across age groups, the highest unemployment rate was recorded among those aged 50–54, at 7.1% (4,428 individuals), followed by those aged 15–24, at 6.4% (4,513 individuals). Meanwhile, the number of first-time job seekers decreased by 203 to 7,637, pointing to fewer new entrants into unemployment, while the number of registered job vacancies stood at 13,013 in May.
