Slovenia Consumer Mood Weakens in August

The consumer confidence indicator in Slovenia fell by 2 percentage points month-on-month to -22 in August 2026 from a revised -20 in July.

Expectations regarding the economic situation over the next 12 months deteriorated (-27 vs -25 in July), while those for the past 12 months eased slightly (-37 vs -38).

Households’ assessments of their financial situation also worsened for both the past 12 months (-16 vs -15) and the year ahead (-14 vs -10).

Moreover, willingness to make major purchases turned more negative over the next 12 months (-32 vs -28), while holding steady at -20 for the present.

Among other indicators, price expectations for the past 12 months were unchanged at 65, while those for the next 12 months rose to 56 from 47.

Concerns about unemployment a year ahead eased slightly to 23 from 24.

The consumer confidence indicator in Slovenia increased by 1 percentage point month-over-month to -19 in July 2026 from -20 in June, marking the highest reading since July 2021. The improvement was mainly driven by less pessimistic assessments of current and future major purchases (-20 vs -25 and -28 vs -32, respectively), households' financial situation over the past 12 months (-15 vs -17), and savings prospects over the next 12 months (-13 vs -17). Assessments of the general economic situation over the past year also improved marginally (-38 vs -39). However, expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months deteriorated (-25 vs -20), while households' financial outlook remained unchanged (-10 vs -10). Meanwhile, inflation expectations over the next twelve months were unchanged (47), and unemployment expectations eased slightly (24 vs 25).

The consumer confidence indicator in Slovenia increased by 7 percentage points month-over-month to -20 in June 2026 from -27 in the previous month. It marked the highest reading since August 2021, as households became less pessimistic about the general economic outlook over the next twelve months (-20 vs -35 in May) and their personal financial outlook over the same period (-10 vs -19). Assessments also improved regarding households' financial situation over the past year (-17 vs -20) and the general economic situation over the same period (-39 vs -43). Moreover, expectations for major purchases over the next twelve months became less negative (-32 vs -35), as did assessments of current conditions for major purchases (-25 vs -31). Finally, households were less pessimistic about their savings prospects over the next twelve months (-17 vs -21).
