Serbia Current Account Gap Smallest in 7 Months

Serbia recorded a current account deficit of USD 145 million in May 2026, narrowing from USD 527 million in the corresponding month of the previous year.

It was the smallest deficit since October last year, driven largely by a bigger surplus for services account, which rose to USD 314 million from USD 161 million.

At the same, the goods account shortfall contracted to USD 549 million from USD 571 million.

The primary income account gap also fell to USD 485 million from USD 636 million, while the secondary income account surplus expanded to USD 575 million from USD 518 million.

Considering the first five months of the year, the country’s current account deficit declined to USD 655 million from USD 1,973 million in the same period a year earlier.

Serbia Current Account Gap Shrinks in April
Serbia posted a current account deficit of €274 million in April 2026, narrowing from €688 million in the same month a year ago. The goods shortfall shrank to €637 million from €809 million in April 2025, while the services surplus increased to €259 million from €118 million. At the same time, the primary income gap rose to €451 million from €432 million, while the secondary income surplus went up to €555 million from €435 million.

Serbia Current Account Deficit Narrows in March
Serbia’s current account deficit narrowed to $411 million in March 2026 from a revised $548 million in the corresponding month a year earlier. The goods account gap shrank to $642 million from $753 million in March 2025, while the services account surplus widened to $240 million from $136 million. The secondary income surplus also increased to $707 million from $414 million. In contrast, the primary income deficit widened sharply to $715 million from $345 million. In the first three months of 2026, Serbia posted a current account deficit of $209 million, narrowing from $690 million in the corresponding period last year.
