Serbia Current Account Deficit Doubles in July

Serbia’s current account deficit narrowed to $263 million in August 2026 from $343 million in the same month a year earlier. The goods deficit widened to $636 million from $615 million, while the primary income deficit edged down to $385 million from $392 million. On the other hand, the services surplus expanded to $78 million from $59 million, and the secondary income surplus rose to $681 million from $604 million. Over the first eight months of 2026, Serbia posted a current account deficit of $2,430 million, smaller than the $2,738 million recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Serbia’s current account deficit widened sharply to $540 million in July 2026, doubling from a $265 million deficit in the same month a year earlier. The services account swung to a deficit of $80 million from a surplus of $99 million, while the primary income deficit widened to $635 million from $400 million. In contrast, the goods deficit narrowed to $541 million from $607 million, while the secondary income surplus widened to $715 million from $644 million. Over the first seven months of 2026, Serbia posted a current account deficit of $2,199 million, narrowing from $2,396 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Serbia’s current account deficit widened sharply to $1,022 million in June 2026 from $231 million in the same month last year. This marked the largest deficit since December 2025, as the goods account deficit increased to $687 million from $326 million, while the services surplus narrowed to $225 million from $297 million. At the same time, the primary income deficit expanded to $1,118 million from $690 million. On the other hand, the secondary income surplus rose to $557 million from $488 million. Over the first half of the year, Serbia posted a current account deficit of $1,616 million, smaller than the $2,204 million recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.
