Romania Jobless Rate at 5-Month Low

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate eased to 6.4% in July 2026 from an upwardly revised 6.8% in the previous month, marking its lowest level since February. The number of unemployed people decreased by 28.7 thousand month-on-month and increased 42 thousand year-on-year. By gender, the unemployment rate for men fell to 6.2% from 6.6% in June, while the rate for women declined to 6.7% from 7.1%. Among individuals aged 25 to 74, who accounted for 76.4% of total unemployed people, the unemployment rate edged down to 5.2% from 5.3% in June. Compared with the same month a year earlier, however, the overall unemployment rate remained higher than the 5.9% recorded in July 2025.

The number of unemployed people declined by 10.5 thousand from May, while it was 7.1 thousand higher than a year earlier, bringing the total to 511.6 thousand. By gender, the unemployment rate for men remained unchanged at 6.3%, while the rate for women edged down to 6.3% from 6.5% in the previous month. Among individuals aged 25 to 74, who represented 72.2% of the total number of unemployed people, the unemployment rate eased to 4.8% from 4.9% in May. Compared with the same month a year earlier, the overall unemployment rate was slightly higher than the 6.2% recorded in June 2025.

The number of unemployed people increased by nearly 10 thousand from the prior month and by 15.1 thousand from a year earlier, reaching 522.1 thousand. By gender, the jobless rate for men inched higher to 6.3% from 6.2% in each of the previous two months, while the rate for women rose to 6.5% from 6.3% in April. Among individuals aged 25–74, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9%. In May 2025, the overall unemployment rate stood at 6.2%.
