Turkish Tourism Revenues Plummet 40.2% in Q1

Turkey's tourism revenues slipped 40.2% from a year earlier to USD 2.45 billion in the first quarter of 2021, of which 68.8% was obtained from foreign visitors and 31.2% was obtained from citizens resident abroad.
It was the lowest figure for a first quarter period since 2010, as the ongoing pandemic crisis continued to hit the country's key sector.
Apart from health expenditure, all expenditure types decreased compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The number of departing visitors decreased by 53.9% to 2.6 million.
Tourism expenditure, which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, fell 70.2%.
