Medium Market ImpactEurozone GDP Growth Beats Expectations
Euro Area·GDP Growth Rate

The Eurozone economy expanded by 0.4% in Q3 2026, slowing from 0.6% growth in Q2 but exceeding market expectations of 0.2%, according to preliminary estimates. Ireland led the region with growth of 5.5%, driven by strong AI-related investment, while Spain and the Netherlands both grew by 0.6%, supported by consumer spending. Germany expanded by just 0.2%, as weaker exports and declining investment offset resilient consumption. France unexpectedly contracted by 0.1%, also weighed down by falling exports and investment, while Italy stagnated due to declining industrial output. The region has remained resilient this year, supported by heavy spending on AI, defense and infrastructure, prompting forecasters to raise growth projections above 1% for 2026 and anticipate further acceleration in 2027. However, the ECB and other observers warn that momentum may fade as rising borrowing costs, renewed energy price pressures and potential rate hikes threaten to weigh on economic activity.
